Based in Haywood County, North Carolina, Balsam Range consists of five men native to this region “where the Smokies meet the Blue Ridge.” Bluegrass says a lot of what this band is about, but equally important are the aspects of Gospel and Country Music. All the fellows in the band grew up in the rich musical heritage of the Appalachian South, surrounded by culture and heritage steeped in traditions of The Grand Ole Opry as well as the important influences of the Scotch-Irish settlers of the Southern Mountains, English ballads, Western songs, and tunes written by the band members themselves.

The Dillards, Darlings, and Mayberry go hand-in-hand with America and apple pie. Think of America in the good 'ol days, and The Andy Griffith Show automatically comes to mind. Then those "Darling boys" pop in there, too.

Band Leader Frances Mooney says, "We feel our approach is unique for many reasons, we’re not afraid of challenges, driving rhythm and power vocals. Then too, we aren't afraid to vary the style, and arrange old country and rock & roll to our shows. Thanks to Mark Mundy, Louisa Branscomb, Miss Dixie & Tom T. Hall, we add a few original songs, to our show. They are traditional yet creative, with gorgeous melodies that allow for gripping harmony singing and crowd-pleasing."

The Leadbetters |
Phil and his Brother Kent played in several bands together in the early 1980s including Hard Knox and New Dawn. New Dawn was one of the official band's of the 1982 where they played 5-6 nights a week during the fair. New Dawn disbanded in late 1983. 25 years later finds Phil and Kent with their 2 son's Matt and Chance playing in a band together. The fact that there are now 4 musical Leadbetters, it was kinda a no-brainer to just call the band "The Leadbetters". Matt is a very accomplished dobro player with many pro stints in bluegrass, but is playing bass in the band. Chance plays several instruments and is also a good singer. Add multi-instrumentalist Darrell Webb to the band and you have a great mix. When the Leadbetter's get together it is like a homecoming. Lot's of fun and good music. If you haven't been out to see the Leadbetters you should!!
